MOVING MEDITATIONS – YOGA & THE FIVE GREAT ELEMENTS
All the Vedic schools of philosophy, especially Samkhya, Yoga and Ayurveda view the world and all of cosmic creation as made up of the five great elements, the “panca maha bhuta-s”. We are not separate from the universe, but an integral part of it. Therefore these fundamental elements constitute and affect not only the world around us, but also every level of our being. Including our physical bodies, behaviours, relationships, motivations, actions and thoughts.

This workshop is an experiential journey of discovery through the elements. By exploring the microcosm of our own bodies we will also come into greater understanding of the macrocosm, the larger world as a whole, and develop tools and understanding for greater balance and harmony in our everyday lives.

Dive Deeper into your yoga and meditation practices and retreat for 4 days and 3 nights to a beautiful Shingon Buddhist Temple on the Sacred Koya San Mountain.
Retreat will include twice daily yoga and in depth meditation classes, philosophy, kirtan, and meditative dance. It will also include delicious vegetarian food, and the opportunity to sit with the monks in prayer and learn about Shingon Buddhist Practices.
This is a wonderful and precious opportunity to get away from everything, have some quiet reflective time for yourself, and deepen your practice with a supportive community, in a setting where others have been practicing for thousands of years. There will also be some time to explore the surrounding Koya San area. Hope you can join us!

Yoga, Meditation & Embodied Dance- A Special Workshop with Nicole Porter at Spirit Yoga, Sep 19, 2016

Yoga means to “yoke”, to bring together the body and mind into our natural state of union, or to be more accurate, to remember the union we already are. In this workshop, we will be working with the body and mind experientially through meditation, yoga asana and embodied dance/moving meditation. Through these modalities we will be exploring some basic yogic philosophical points to come into a greater understanding of the depth of yoga, and our own natural state of union and presence.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and all levels of experience. It is also suitable for yoga teachers who wish to go deeper into their experience and understanding of meditation and the deeper aspects of yoga. Nicole is a certified yoga teacher, who has also had very deep long term meditation, mindfulness and embodied dance practices for the last 15 years. She is very excited to bring this workshop to you, which combines all her loves of yoga, philosophy, meditation and embodied dance.

Dive Deeper into your yoga and meditation practices and retreat for 2 days to a beautiful Zen Temple in Kyoto. Learn more about the deeper aspects of yoga, and the importance of mindfulness and meditation practice.

Retreat will include twice daily yoga, and in depth philosophy, meditation & mindfulness classes and practice. There will be Ayurveda (Indian Natural Medicine) sessions, health and healing tips for the season. (Kirtan and dance meditation classes can be available on request). The retreat will also include delicious vegetarian temple food, and the opportunity to participate in a temple morning ceremony with the temple abbot.

Nicole has been a meditation and yoga practitioner for over 15 years. Her meditation and mindfulness experience is extensive, as she has been studying very closely with her main teachers, and others for over 13 years. This study involves close contact with the teacher on a regular basis, service work (karma yoga), personal and philosophical instruction from the teacher, and extensive retreat work. As well as her yoga practice and study, she has a daily hourly meditation practice and has participated in 2 week to 1 month long silent retreats once or twice a year for the last 13 years. Her greatest passion is to introduce students to the ‘true heart’ of yoga through its deeper aspects of meditation and mindfulness practice.

This is a wonderful and precious opportunity to get away from everything, have some quiet reflective time for yourself, and deepen your practice with a supportive community, in a setting where others have been practicing for thousands of years. Hope you can join us!
